The HDF Group Joins the COVID-19 High Performance (HPC) Consortium

Champaign IL, June 24, 2020 – The HDF Group (HDF®), the maintainers and creators of the open source HDF5 library and file format, has joined the COVID-19 High Performance Computing (HPC) Consortium as an affiliate to provide expertise that can enhance and accelerate COVID-19 research.

“The HDF Group welcomes the opportunity to help scientists use open source HDF5® in their fight against COVID-19. Our team is eager and available to assist researchers in every way we can in applying HPC and HDF technologies so they can focus on advancing their research,” says Mike Folk, Interim Executive Director of The HDF Group.

The COVID-19 High Performance Computing (HPC) Consortium is a unique effort of private and public companies spearheaded by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the U.S. Department of Energy and IBM to bring together federal government, industry, and academic leaders who are volunteering free compute time and resources on their world-class machines. The Consortium encompasses computing capabilities from some of the world’s most powerful and advanced computers to empower researchers around the world and accelerate the understanding of the COVID-19 virus and the development of treatments and vaccines for this coronavirus disease. Researchers are invited to submit COVID-19 related proposals to the consortium for review and match of computing resources. Matched proposals will then have access to resources and help from consortium affiliates such as HDF free of charge.
