HDFView

HDFView is a visual tool for browsing and editing HDF4 and HDF5 files. Using HDFView, you can

view a file hierarchy in a tree structure
create new file, add or delete groups and datasets
view and modify the content of a dataset
add, delete and modify attributes
replace I/O and GUI components such as table view, image view and metadata view

hdf-java 2.5 patch 01

Patch 01 was released on April 13, 2009. The major fix is a correction of image values. For details, see release notes at http://www.hdfgroup.org/ftp/HDF5/hdf-java/v25p1/README.

To obtain the patch, go to http://www.hdfgroup.org/ftp/HDF5/hdf-java/v25p1. To use the patch, you may have to download and install HDFView 2.5 first.

This version was built with HDF4.2r4 and HDF5 Release 1.8.2 with the 1.6 API Compatibility Macros, using jdk 1.6.x.

HDFView can be downloaded quickly from here. The Windows, Solaris, Linux and AIX versions listed below (that have an asterisk) include JDK 1.6. If you want a version for these platforms that does not include JDK, see the footnote immediately following.

* The versions listed above for Windows, Solaris, Linux, and AIX will install a standalone version of HDFView where JRE1.6 is bundled in the distribution. No additional software is needed to run HDFView. If JDK 1.6 or above is already installed on your machine, you may want the non-JRE distribution. The file size of the HDFView distribution without the Java VM is much smaller.

Install/Run Instructions

Unix:
- To install, type: sh ./hdfview_install_{linux, solaris, irix}_{vm, novm}.bin
- To run, type: ./hdfview
Mac OS X:
- To install, open hdfview_install_macosx_novm.zip
- To run, {where_you_install_hdfview}/hdfview.sh
  or click on the HDFView Icon on the desktop
Windows:
- To install, type: hdfview_install_windows_vm.exe
- To run, select HDFView from the menu, Start -> programs -> THG HDFView 2.x -> HDFView 2.x
