The latest formal release of HDF4 can be obtained from this page. HDF4 requires the ZLIB and JPEG external libraries. The pre-compiled binaries below are built with these as well as the SZIP library. For convenience, these external libraries are included in the binaries below. |

Pre-built Binary Distributions
PLEASE take note of the compilers used to build the pre-compiled binaries below. If your compiler or compiler versions are different than those shown, then you may need to build HDF from source.
The pre-built binary distributions in the table below include the:
- HDF libraries
- HDF include files
- HDF utilities
- HDF release notes
- ZLIB library
- JPEG library
- SZIP (Encoder Enabled) library
Please note that the Windows binary distributions are built in Release Mode only.

External Libraries Used by HDF
The ZLIB and JPEG libraries are required by HDF, but the SZIP external library is optional. Users can typically use the ZLIB and JPEG libraries installed on their systems, but the source code is provided below in case there is a need:

SZIP 2.1: SZIP Source Code (includes CMake support)
The SZIP software is distributed by The HDF Group. Please see the SZIP Compression In HDF Products page for information on SZIP. Although the current release is 2.1, the SZIP 2.0 binaries can be used with HDF.
Please view the SZIP licensing information to determine whether to use the Encoder Enabled or Decoder Enabled SZIP library.
