The latest formal release of HDF5 1.6, version 1.6.10, can be obtained from this page. This release contains bug fixes and changes since the last release. Please note that this is the LAST release of HDF5 1.6. Users should plan to move to the HDF5 1.8 release. Please refer to the What's New in 1.8 document for the changes in the HDF5 1.8 release. |
External Software
The following external libraries are OPTIONAL for use with HDF5.
Please be aware that the external software below (especially ZLIB) is
provided for convenience reasons ONLY and comes WITHOUT a guarantee.
We encourage users to use the ZLIB library that is installed on
their systems.

NOTE:
- The SZIP configuration changed in version 2.1, but this did not
affect the built SZIP 2.0 binaries.
- Please review the SZIP licensing information to determine whether to use the encoder enabled or decoder enabled SZIP library.
HDF5 1.6 Software
The SZIP and ZLIB libraries are OPTIONAL in HDF5. However, the pre-built binary distributions in the table below are built with the SZIP and ZLIB external libraries, and therefore require them.
If you do not wish to include SZIP and/or ZLIB, you will have to build HDF5 from source.
