Latest Official Release of HDF5: 5-1.8.5 [ Newsletter 114 ] [ Install (Source) ] [ Compile Info ]
Due to the number of major new features in 1.8, we are currently supporting two branches of HDF5. The 1.6 branch is for those 1.6 users who do not need the new features in 1.8 or are not ready to move to a major new release. We provide the HDF5 1.6.10 release for those users. New users are strongly encouraged to use HDF5 1.8.

NOTE:
- The SZIP configuration changed in version 2.1, but this did not affect the built SZIP 2.0 binaries.
- Please review the SZIP licensing information to determine whether to use the Encoder Enabled or Decoder Enabled SZIP library.
HDF5 Software
The SZIP and ZLIB libraries are optional in HDF5. HOWEVER, the pre-built binary distributions in the table below are built with AND INCLUDE the SZIP (Encoder Enabled) and ZLIB external libraries. (In previous releases, the SZIP and ZLIB libraries were provided separately.) Please be sure to review the SZIP licensing information for using the Encoder Enabled or Decoder Enabled SZIP library.
If you do not wish to include SZIP and/or ZLIB, you will have to build HDF5 from source.
